About us
West Mendip Orchestra, founded as Winscombe Orchestra in 1974 with 10 players, has now grown to over 25 regular members. We currently perform three programmes a year at venues in Weston–super-Mare, Churchill and Yatton, and our concerts sometimes feature well-known local soloists. New players of appropriate standard are welcomed and supported; some may be experienced orchestral players, while for others this may be a new experience. We rehearse from 7:45pm to 9:30pm on Fridays at The Lynch Chapel in Winscombe.

John Johnson, Our Conductor
John studied Piano and Composition at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. In September 2017 he was appointed as principal conductor of the Cameo Orchestra, based in Warmley, and in September 2018 he became musical director for Eclectic Voices, a local chamber choir.
