Practice notes from John
Hi all
Thank you for your playing last Friday: a warm welcome back to Sarah and to Phil (Trombone) for joining us.
The past 6 weeks have disappeared rather quickly, and after our break this coming week (16th Feb) we have 4 rehearsals left before our concert on 22nd March.
I do hope that you get the chance to look at your respective parts before we return on the 23rd Feb: perhaps you could spend an hour or so of your `free` Friday evening (16th Feb) to run through some `tricky bits` for yourself…?! (just a suggestion!)
As indicated a few times already, my job is more to look after the shaping and `ensembleness` aspects of our work – rather than rehearsing notes and rhythms – and your job is to be able to embrace your respective instrumental part as best you can: one can’t do without the other, and both involve some form of practice.
Please see the attached for some further thoughts on this: hope you find these inspirational!
Proposed rehearsal sequence for 23rd Feb. (with new timings)…
FIRST HALF: 7.45-8.30pm
Suppe: Light Cavalry
Volkmann: mvmt 1
BREAK 8.30 – 8.45pm
SECOND HALF: 8.45-9.30pm – ish
Emperor Waltz
Volkmann: mvmt 2
Happy Practicing
John x
