Michelle Falcon

Michelle Falcon was born in Hampshire and whilst at school was a member of the Southampton Youth Orchestra. She studied English at Bath Spa University, gaining First Class Honours before deciding on a musical career. Later, she completed post-graduate studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and converted permanently from violin to playing the viola in 2009. She continues to receive lessons from Martin Humbey of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields.

Michelle resides in the Bath region, working as a freelance performer, string teacher and ensemble fixer. She has played with numerous orchestras including Bath Baroque, English Symphony Orchestra, the Bristol Ensemble, British Sinfonietta, Three Spires Orchestra and Southern Sinfonia. Other performances have included tours in Italy and France with Hampshire Sinfonietta, a tour to China in 2015 with London Arte Chamber Orchestra and session work with BBC composer Howard Davidson. As a founding member of the Bath Spa String Quartet, Michelle has played at the Bath International Music Festival and given concerts for Rode Chamber Music Club. As a soloist Michelle has recently performed concertos with orchestras in the UK, which have included Holst ‘Lyric Movement’, Hoffmeister Viola Concerto in D, Larsson Viola Concertino, Walton Viola Concerto and Hindemith ‘Trauermusik’.

In chamber music roles Michelle has received coaching from the Badke, Emperor, Chilingirian, Skampa and Kuss Quartets as well as from the Gould Piano Trio. She has performed viola sonatas by Brahms, Shostakovich, Martinu and Bax, in masterclasses with Martin Outram, Garfield Jackson, Suzy Meszaros and Yuko Inoue and in 2011 she was the only solo viola player from over 80 international students to be selected to perform in one of the Artists Concerts as part of the Lake District Summer Music Festival. She is passionate about performing music and is a keen recitalist and chamber player.
